Countryside mural brightens up Malton hospital unit

A countryside mural has brightened up a North Yorkshire hospital unit.
The work is on display at Malton Community Hospital’s Springwood Unit which provides specialist care for dementia patients.
Karen Wheelhouse, activity coordinator at Cross Lane Hospital in Scarborough, is behind the mural.
She said the work is inspired by the drive across North Yorkshire, surrounded by dry stone walls and farmland.
The mural depicts a countryside scene, with images of snails, ladybirds, mice, moles, chickens and tractors.

York Open Studios to return in April

Artists in York are preparing to open their doors to the public as one of the main events in the city’s “cultural calendar” returns. York Open Studios will take place in April for its 24th year. It will see artists who live or work within a 10-mile radius of York welcome visitors to their studios on the weekends of April 5 to 6 and April 12 to 13 from 10am to 5pm.
The not-for-profit event effectively transforms York into an art gallery for the two weekends.
This year, more than 160 talented makers will show and sell their work, while offering a rare behind the scenes look at their processes.

Glamping holiday pods are planned near Langham and Wing Hollow

Holiday pods could be popping up in two rural locations if plans receive the go ahead. Landowners at Rocott Lodge Barn near Langham and Station Road at Wing Hollow have applied for planning permission that could benefit tourism. Each party aims to build glamping pods for holidaymakers. Hegarty solicitors celebrate 50 years with a bumper fundraising year

A firm of solicitors has raised nearly £13,000 for charity to mark its 50th year. Hegarty staff started the year with a goal to complete 50 acts of community kindness and raise £10,000 for MindSpace Stamford, Pepper’s A Safe Place in Oakham, Dementia Support South Lincs based in Bourne, and Sports Connections Foundation in Peterborough. Stamford Arts Centre Christmas craft market

Plenty of people turned out for a Christmas craft market at Stamford Arts Centre. The market ran between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, December 14, and featured a variety of homemade gifts and crafts. Pieces for sale included woven baskets, jewellery, candles, Christmas ornaments and baked goods. Helen Burke, founder of Foxy Felting, had a stall showing off her festive felt figurines.
